To educate children to become the future leaders of Liberia. Hilltop Schools supports children’s rights to education, health, and protection.
What we do
Hilltop Schools operates an all girls Academy in Central Monrovia, serving 270+ girls from kindergarten to 9th grade. Hilltop Schools is a Liberian NGO, established in 2019. We accepted the responsibilities to support the students of the former More Than Me Foundation, to ensure every child continues to have access to quality education.

Our Model
Hilltop Schools is built on four pillars to ensure our students’ rights are protected and their potential is realized: Safety, Health, Education, and Monitoring. We focus on strong safeguarding and child protection policies to ensure students, teachers, parents, and all staff understand and protect children’s rights. We provide basic healthcare, so that students are healthy and ready to learn. We build teacher capacity and provide high quality curriculum so that our students are striving academically. Finally, we conduct rigorous assessments to understand student learning data and have ongoing monitoring to be sure that we are succeeding at all pillars of our work.
Safety
All children have the right to be safe, healthy, and happy in their learning environment. Our safety team, led by seasoned social worker Sylvestine Gbessagee, trains staff, students, and communities on the rights of a child and safety reporting procedures. They ensure safeguarding is embedded in every aspect of our programming.
Health
Children must be healthy in order to learn. We have a nurse on staff, and provide healthcare coverage to our students. Students participate in health education programs to learn how to stay healthy. We do this so that no student has to suffer from preventable and treatable illnesses.
EDUCATION
We believe in the brilliance and potential of our students. Great learning is directly correlated to great teaching, so we invest time and resources in recruiting, training, and supporting our teachers. We partner with Rising Academies to deliver high quality curriculum and conduct regular trainings to develop teacher skills and understanding.
MONITORING
We care about our impact. We collect data on attendance, student learning outcomes, health treatment, safety incidents, and a host of other metrics so that we can improve programs, inform our trainings, and continuously learn and improve. Data is a critical component to ensuring we are truly ensuring the safety, health, and quality learning for each of our students.
